Overview

The M.Tech in Clinical Engineering is a unique joint program offered in collaboration with two of India’s foremost clinical and biomedical research institutions: Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore, and the Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST), Thiruvananthapuram.

Students experience engineering education from three distinct institutional perspectives in a single degree, gaining exposure to hospital systems, clinical workflows, biomedical device regulation, and hands-on equipment management in real clinical environments. The program totals 210 credits and is designed for engineers who want to work at the direct interface of technology and patient care.

Semester 1

IIT Madras — Engineering foundations, biomedical systems, instrumentation

Semester 2

CMC Vellore — Clinical environment immersion, hospital technology management

IIT Madras Host institution. Engineering coursework, applied mechanics, and biomedical engineering foundations in Semester 1.
Christian Medical College, Vellore One of India's leading clinical institutions. Students are embedded in hospital departments, gaining hands-on clinical engineering exposure in Semester 2.
SCTIMST, Thiruvananthapuram Premier national institute for medical sciences and technology. Semester 3 focuses on device R&D, regulatory science, and biomedical safety.
